Trusted Transitions – Doris Burns

Five and a half years ago Doris Burns and her husband decided to move from Scotland to Canada. Selling the house and minimalising the contents to packing crates was a monstrous and very emotional heart-rending task for them. “We had to decide what to ship over to Canada, what to leave to friends and family and then there were things that went to Charity Shops. The choice of belongings we wanted to keep and dispose of was not always based on material worth, but of course on their sentimental value”. But they learned that they had to be sensible and ruthless at the same time.

Since arriving in Canada Doris has worked with many seniors in their own homes and in Retirement Residences providing care and companionship. “Sometimes it takes a great of patience and understanding, but there is a terrific amount of pleasure and satisfaction to be gained in spending time with them”.
